A RALLYING cry from Buckby boss Glenn Botterill for his players to step up their game failed to stop his side from losing 2-1 to Boston Town.
Botterill warned his players last week they were playing for their place in the team as he looked at ways of ending the recent disappointing run of results.
But Boston snatched a late winner to add to the Station Road outfit’s disappointment.
Alex Beck opened the Poacher’s account in the 52nd minute but the visitor’s joy was short-lived.
Buckby marksman Dan Holman levelled the sides with a goal on the hour in a move which saw him find a gap down the middle to blast the ball into the net from 20 yards out.
Buckby refused to give up the fight and appeared to have the majority of the play in a spell of free-flowing football.
But despite their best efforts they struggled to turn their numerous opportunities into goals.
The killer blow came with only minutes on the clock remaining when Paul Goodhand fired a free kick into the top corner after being brought down by Luke Walker who was red-carded.
But Buckby were not ready to concede defeat and substitute Andy Gordon was denied a late equaliser only by the woodwork.
