Clive Platt and Chris Hackett were given some game time for the Cobblers in a behind-closed-doors reserve team match at Watford, which was won 2-0.
JJ Hooper and Ishmel Demontagnac were on target against a strong Hornets side in a game played at their training ground.
Platt played 55 minutes and Hackett, who is suspended for Saturday’s game against Torquay United, completed 75.
“It was a good work out for us,” said manager Aidy Boothroyd.
“Clive and Chris both came through strongly and to have two such influential players approaching fitness again is a big boost to us.
“Clive is very much in contention for Saturday and it was good for those two, and some of the lads who have been on the bench in the last few weeks, to get some minutes under their belts.”
