Chris Hackett and Clive Platt both made it through their first full Cobblers training session unscathed on Thursday - but will not be considered for selection against Newport County.

The experienced duo have returned to the fold after recovering from the injuries that plagued them at the back end of last season.

Hackett had an Achilles problem and Platt suffers several tears of his calf and although both are now fully rehabilitated they won’t feature against Newport at Sixfields on Saturday.

But one player who will return for the Cobblers is Darren Carter, who has completed his one-game suspension and who could return in central midfield.

Lewis Hornby also remains sidelined with a toe injury, while Alex Nicholls is now in a protective boot on the leg he broke in October of last season.
