Edinburgh targeting first away win as Cobblers head for in-form Fleetwood

Town head to the Highbury Stadium unbeaten in three matches, but they are coming up against the form team in Sky Bet League One, with Uwe Rosler’s men having not lost in 16 league games.

Town picked up their first away point on the road under Edinburgh as they drew 2-2 at Southend United last weekend, and the Cobblers boss now wants to go one better.

“Fleetwood are on a magnificent run, and we know we are going to have to go there and replicate the performance from Southend,” he said.

“We are going to have to go there and do that again, but I am saying to the players that they have proved they can do it.

“They know they are capable of it, and what we have to do is start showing consistency.

“The home form has been good, but we haven’t won away from home and that is obviously something we are going to try to do.

“We will go to Fleetwood and be respectful, they are on a good run, but in my time here I have seen enough to know that we are capable of going there and getting a result.”

Fleetwood’s fantastic run of form has taken them to the brink of promotion to the Championship.

They are currently fourth in the league one table, just two points behind second-placed Scunthorpe United, and seven off leaders Sheffield United.

Rosler’s men go into the Cobblers game on the back of wins against Bradford City and Milton Keynes Dons, and having not been beaten at home since September 24!

Edinburgh has already been to Highbury this season with his previous club Gillingham, losing 2-1, and knows exactly what to expect, but he believes the Cobblers can be a match for the Cod Army.

“Fleetwood are obviously on a fine run of form, they have momentum, and they have some good strikers who are capable of scoring goals,” said the Town boss. “They are strong.

“They have changed their system now and have gone to a three-man central defence with wing-backs, who are good players and like to push on and get forward.

“We will work on what we need to do in preparation for the game, but we need to go there and impose ourselves, and continue to do what we have been doing.”
