A former team-mate of Daventry boss Allan Smart, Noel-Williams is set to make his debut in next Tuesday’s Communications Park meeting with Barton Rovers.

The 35-year-old has been plying his trade as a coach in the USA, which meant he had to wait for international clearance before being allowed to play for Daventry, and that clearance has been granted.

Noel-Williams was a regular scorer in his seven years at Watford, where he started as a trainee, netting 41 goals in 137 starts and 66 substitute appearances, but his career at Vicarage Road was ended by a serious knee injury.

He moved to Stoke City and scored 23 goals in 83 starts and eight games off the bench, and he spent two years at Burnley before his career tailed off.

Noel-Williams couldn’t settle after short and unproductive spells at Brighton. Millwall and Yeovil, and moved to America where he played for the Austin Aztecs and the DFW Tornadoes, before going into coaching.

But the Islington-born player is now back home, and will be turning out for Daventry Town.
