Daventry Town remain unbeaten at home in the league, moving up to fifth in the league table after an impressive 2-0 victory over Chertsey Town on Tuesday.

A goal in each half from Ashley Robinson and Adam Confue sealed their eighth consecutive home league win.

Daventry boss Darran Foster thought his team should have won the game more easily, making hard work of beating Chertsey.

“We started the game quite brightly creating several chances, Robinson, Lorraine and Oulton, all missing very good chances to put us out of sight,” said Foster.

“If you miss chances, you are going to be in for a battle and that is exactly what Chertsey gave us.

“They worked tirelessly in their 4-5-1 formation and made it very difficult for us.

“Once we start putting these chances away, we will begin beating teams by a big score.

“This was a very important three points. Every game is a cup final at the moment, as long as we keep grinding out victories even if we are not playing well, then that is a huge plus point. “

Captain Liam Dolman returned to the starting line- up, in place of Marcel Simpson who was dropped, after arriving only 30 minutes before kick-off.

Daventry’s opening goal came on 31 minutes when Robinson headed a cross from Ryan Howells past the exposed Chertsey keeper.

Chertsey were reduced to 10 men on 50 minutes when winger John Flood was given a straight red for an elbow on Ross Oulton, and it was game over soon afterwards when substitute Luke Keen provided an assist for Confue to put Town 2-0 ahead, Keen chipping the ball over a defender for Confue to turn his shot past the keeper.

The win means Daventry are fifth in the Calor League Division One Central. They are 10 points behind leaders Dunstable, with four games in hand.

Town have games in hand on all of their rivals. This Saturday, Town travel to mid-table Chalfont St Peter.
