Daventry Town are facing an injury crisis as their hectic start to the season start to takes its toll on the squad.
Manager Darran Foster was delighted to see his team return to winning ways in the Calor League Division One Central on Tuesday night, as Usbridge were beaten 2-1 at Communications Park.
But on the minus side, Town’s already creaking squad was depleted even further as striker Scott Cross and midfielder Chris Murphy picked up early injuries that forced them off the field.
The duo are now struggling to be fit in time for Saturday’s trip to Slough, and Foster has admitted he may have to bring in some new players.
Following the win over Usbridge, the Town boss claimed he now has only 13 fit players left at his disposal.
“It was very pleasing to pick up all three points, in what has been our first league game for six weeks, “ said Foster, who saw his side beat Ramsgate 3-2 in the FA Trophy on Saturday.
“It was a pretty solid display on a very cold and miserable night; 12 months ago we would have given the points away.
“It was a difficult night, especially losing Chris Murphy and Scott Cross after only 10 minutes, we shuffled the pack and I was very pleasing with the way we settled after the changes.
“Uxbridge came with one man up front and packed the midfield out. Once we scored our first goal, we controlled the game very well.
“We thoroughly deserved to go 2-0 up, but we should have added a couple more in the closing 15 minutes, instead we gifted them a penalty, after Marcel Simpson and Joe Henderson collided; we then dragged the striker down on recovering!
“Chris Murphy and Scott Cross join the long list of injuries, we now have 13 fit players out of a squad of 20!
“I am looking to bring in a couple of players for the trip to Slough, possibly a striker.”
The men on the mark for Daventry on Tuesday were Tom Lorraine, who opened the scoring on 40 minutes, and Josh Blake who, after being pushed into action as an emergency striker, scored with 15 minutes remaining.
