Cobblers chairman David Cardoza isn’t ruling out taking action against people who have made accusations against him and the football club on social media regarding the delayed east stand redevelopment.

Work on the east stand has been delayed since September due to various problems, but mainly due to a legal dispute with the company contracted to do the work.

The Cobblers were granted a £12million loan by Northampton Borough Council to regenerate Sixfields Stadium, and since the delays there have been plenty of attacks, snipes and accusations heading Cardoza’s way about the cause of the problems.

The Town chairman has maintained his silence on what has mainly been online accusations while trying to sort out the redevelopment, but he says he intends to deal with individuals when the time is right.

“Things have been totally out of my control, and people make things up and say whatever, and I can’t say anything,” said Cardoza.

“To be honest, I am quite shocked by some of the stuff I have seen, it is just so far off the mark.

“But I suppose people want to have a go at me, they have been waiting a long time to, and they have just found their reason and now they can do it.

“It is disappointing, I have to say, but we will put it (the east stand) right, it will be done, and then people can decide for themselves.”

And asked if he will be taking action against his detractors, Cardoza said: “I think so, you’ve got to. You can’t say some of the things that have been said.

“I don’t read these things for exactly that reason.

“But there comes a point in time, where Gareth (Willsher, club head of media) will tell me, ‘look, this has been said’, and that will have to get dealt with because in this world you can’t just use social media to say and do whatever you like and think you can get away with it.”
