Cobblers defender David Artell has left Sixfields after having his contract terminated.

Artell, who arrived at the club in the summer of 2012 from Crewe Alexandra, left the club a few hours before the transfer window closed.

That means he is now a free agent and is able to sign for another club outside of the transfer window.

“There are no hard feelings with Dave and it suits both parties to go our separate ways,” said boss Aidy Boothroyd, who earlier today announced that central defender Matt Heath had signed a contract to stay at the Cobblers until the new year.

“Sometimes moves just don’t work out and Dave was unlucky with injury last season.

“We wish him well for the future.”
