Daventry boss Foster has big sympathy for neighbours Woodford

Daventry Town boss Darran Foster says Woodford United’s managerial duo deserve a medal.
And Foster is eager for Paul Oddy and Pete Harris to steer the Byfield Road side to their first league point of the season as soon as possible, as long as it’s not against his team.
Daventry can do their local rivals a big favour this weekend - weather permitting! - when they take on the Reds’ relegation rivals North Greenford United at Communications Park.
North Greenford have only amassed four points in the Southern League Division One Central this season, but that remains four more than pointless Woodford.
“I feel for Woodford,” said Daventry manager Foster. “Those blokes (Harris and Oddy) deserve medals for taking over there.
“They’ve got a team of youngsters and giving those boys a chance deserves credit.
“I really hope they pick up a point soon, as long as it’s not against us.”
Woodford’s team is predominantly made up of 16 and 17 year olds, following budget cuts which have seen previous managers Phil Mason and Howard Forinton leave.
And Foster, whose side were 3-0 winners over Woodford at Communications Park on Boxing Day, knows what a difficult task is must be for Harris and Oddy as they aim to help their club swerve the relegation trap door.
“They’ve got some talent,” he said. “But strength and mental strength is something they are lacking.
“We’ve not played a poor team in this league this year, so it’s tough.”
It was certainly tough for Daventry last weekend, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by another of the division’s strugglers in Northwood.
Foster had called for a maximum points haul from the trip to Middlesex, but in the end was relieved to get just one after Northwood had taken the lead with just four minutes remaining.
Robbie Thompson-Brown was the man to the rescue for Town, scoring the equaliser with two minutes left on the clock.
This weekend’s action for both Daventry and Woodford, who are due to travel to Aylesbury, is already in doubt due to the Friday snowfall and freezing temperatures.
