For the first time since 2004, the County will be plying their trade in the top flight of the domestic game’s premier competition after securing the second promotion spot behind Lancashire last autumn.

And Hall, speaking at the club’s annual press day which was held in the town’s Market Square, said: “I do believe we have the team to compete in the first division and once the matches come there will be plenty of pressure but that’s what it’s all about.

“I think it’s going to be a good challenge for us and I know that everyone is looking forward to it.”

The South African all-rounder had an excellent season in the four-day game last year, providing a stabilising influence in the middle order in addition to filling the crucial fourth seamer’s role in the attack.

As well as his output on the field, the vastly experienced Hall will also play a mentoring role to the club’s younger brigade.

He added: “For me it’s important to score my runs in the middle order and take my wickets when I can.

“It’s definitely part of my role, to speak to the younger players and to help them through certain situations.”

“We’ve got some really talented players and if I can help them along then I will.”
