Barby make presence felt

BARBY’S first team game away against Old Edwardians was called off due to the wet weather.

The seconds were at home to Massey Fergusson. The tractor boys lost the toss and Barby skipper Steve Stipanovic invited them to bat.

This looked to be the wrong decision as Massey raced to 75 for no wicket. However, a poor run saw an impressive throw from Perryman which was clutched by Wesson to break the stumps and claim the first man.

Stipanovic then came on and quickly removed the second Massey batsmen.

But another partnership developed and the away team looked on course for a massive score at drinks, before Adam Shay removed a third Massey wicket.

Phil Beagley then came on and removed Nazakat, who led the Massey innings with 111. This led to a collapse with Beagley (three-36) and Rob Stipanovic (four-12) ripping through the tail as Massey finished on 169.

In reply, Rob Field initially held the innings together with a patient 39.

Barby lost wickets and were 85-five when both Dave Wesson and Beagley joined forces and the partnership developed. Barby had reached 146-five when Massey conceded the game.

Beagley finished on 26 not out and Wesson was on 18 not out. With Warwick’s game being cancelled due the weather Barby are now just two points behind them in second place.

Barby were knocked out of the National Village knockout by Cropston CC from Leicestershire on Sunday.

Cropston batted first and despite losing early wickets through Will Sinclair (three-32), Cropston settled in thanks to Joe Bland (30) and an excellent 76 from Brady Glenon. They looked to be setting a stern target for Barby to chase.

But tight bowling by Bikram Singh who took two-32 helped restrict them to 188-nine. The other wicket takers were Phil Beagley and Adam Shay, along with two run outs.

In reply Barby struggled against tight bowling, Alan Robinson taking five-18.

Only Tom Gleghorn (21) and Joel Gleghorn (27) were able to cope with the bowling and Barby were bowled out for just 89.

This defeat saw Barby bow out of the village knockout at the same stage as last season.
