SEVERAL members of Daventry Athletic Club were in action at the County Schools’ Championships at Corby.
Athletes who finished first or second on the day gained selection for the Northants Schools’ team to compete at the Mason Trophy inter-counties match at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, on Saturday.
Six athletes from the club achieved this including Sam Meyler (Guilsborough) who won the U17 boys’ long jump with a pb of 6.39m, Niklas Aarre (William Parker) who won the U17 boys’ discus (38.44m), Kieran Russ (Danetre) who came second in the U17 boys’ 100m hurdles (14.9), Georgia Webster (Campion) who won the U15 girls’ 75m hurdles (12.7) and came second in the long jump (pb 4.60m), Abbie Barns (Danetre) who came second in the U15 Girls’ high jump (1.40m) and Connor Aldridge (William Parker) who came second in the U15 boys’ 400m (pb 56.3).
The previous Sunday the Daventry AC U17 team had their latest McCains Young Athletes League Division One NE match at Solihull and came away with another creditable second place finish.
Top performer was Joe Stewart who had a hat-trick of wins in the U13 boys’ 100m, 200m and long jump. At U15 level there were wins for Georgia Webster in the 75m hurdles (12.3) and 200m, Emily Print (long jump), Emily Spilman (100m), Abbie Barns (high jump), Connor Aldridge (400m) and Daniel Thompson (100m). In the U17 age group there were wins for Sam Meyler (long jump, high jump and shot), Niklas Aarre (discus), Matt Clarke (triple jump) and Angelia Cooney (800m, 1500m and javelin).
