County lads suffer loss away to city side
NORTHAMPTONSHIRE were forced into a number of late changes due to injuries and club commitments, but credit must go to the final selection for their grit and determination.
Birmingham FA have always fielded a strong and talented side and Sunday proved no different.
Despite matching their opponents for the opening half-hour, Birmingham
defended well and broke free after 31 minutes to take the early advantage.
The county boys were on the back foot and a clever solo run from a
Birmingham forward doubled the lead just four minutes later.
With fallen heads, and looking to the break, the home side claimed a third just before the break to
give a three-goal lead
at half-time.
The second-half
continued as the first had finished with the home side pushing forward at every opportunity.
But the Northamptonshire defence put up a good fight which continued until Birmingham played a
cutting pass across the
18-yard box straight to the feet of his attacker.
He calmly slotted home the fourth goal on
60 minutes.
Despite trailing 4-0, the Northamptonshire lads continued with a 'never-say die' attitude and quickly claimed a goal back
courtesy of Ben Paul.
He latched on to a
loose ball in the box and finished well.
The final 15 minutes saw an evenly-fought encounter with Birmingham claiming a fifth goal on 77 minutes.
