Cobblers defender Diamond gets all clear following head injury

Zander Diamond has been given the all clear after suffering a head injury in the 2-0 win over York City at the weekend, and will be available for Saturday's trip to Leyton Orient.

The Scotsman was forced off the field on medical advice after 37 minutes, having clashed heads with a York player and also landing awkwardly.

Diamond clearly wanted to carry on, but Cobblers club doctor Andrew Odwell and physio Anders Braastad both recommended to Chris Wilder that he should be taken off, and the Cobblers boss agreed.

Ryan Cresswell replaced Diamond, but Wilder has confirmed that the former Aberdeen man is fit and well.

“Zander will be okay,” said Wilder. “We have spoken to the medical staff today (Monday), and he will be fine to resume training later in the week and be available for Saturday.

“Doctors have to make important decisions, and we are not going to take any sort of risk on anybody’s health, regardless of whether we want Zander to stay on or not.

“The decision was a pretty comfortable, although perhaps not so for Zander because he wants to play, as do all the players, every minute of every game.

“But we took the decision and we are comfortable with it.”
