Captain pulls off a surprise win

January Monthly Medal WITH the course being closed due to heavy snow the January Medal had to be put back to the end of the month.

Conditions were not

ideal with the course

frozen and winter greens in use. Despite the inclement weather the competition was well supported and some good scores were returned.

Division One: Del

Jackson 76 – 7 Nett 69.

Division Two: Alan Cooper 85 – 17 Nett 68.

Division Three: James How 88 – 26 Nett 62.

Mail on Sunday Team Classic

Daventry were at home to Hellidon Lakes in the first round of the Mail on Sunday Team Classic.

The format is a team knock-out competition with five players from

each club competing in singles match play off

full handicap.

Although the weather had been wet before the match and concerns were expressed as to whether the course would be playable, on the day the main greens and medal tees were all in use for the match and the course played to its

full length.

Daventry came out on top four games to one, although the games were closer than the match

result indicates.

Hellidon Lakes' captain Paul Andrews pulled off a surprise win against

Daventry's Alf Chessum to give Hellidon their

only point.

Result: Daventry 4,

Hellidon Lakes 1.

Del Jackson (7) beat Roy Trim (7) 3 and 1.

Andrew Davies (11)

beat Malcolm Gregory (16) two up.

Alf Chessum (9) lost to Paul Andrews (15) three and one.

Ray Lewis (11) beat Gavin Aris (6) one up

Chris Eveleigh (4) beat Richard French (8) four and two.
