Boothroyd hails comeback kid Robinson’s attitude

BACK IN FROM THE COLD - Jake Robinson spent a lot of time on the bench during his first year as a Cobblers player, but has now been given a run in the team by manager Aidy Boothroyd

Aidy Boothroyd says the attitude of Cobblers forward Jake Robinson is the main reason for the resurrection of the player’s career at Sixfields.

Robinson looked to be on his way out at Northampton when he was farmed out on loan to Luton Town after a first season in which he failed to score a single goal.

But the 26-year-old has emerged as a key player in a team who are now just a point outside the play-offs, and was back among the goals in the 3-1 win over Fleetwood on Saturday.

“I’m pleased for Jake to get his two goals, he’s claiming the second one and he can have it,” said Boothroyd.

“I’m a big believer that everybody deserves a second chance and I’m never one to put people out in the cold and make them train with the kids.

“That was something that I had done to me as a player and it’s not the right thing to do in my opinion, the right thing to do is to tell people the criteria and what is expected of them.

“If you don’t do it then don’t come and blame me for things you’re not doing.
“If people go away and come back, and then start producing the goods then the door is open.

“I don’t bear grudges and I don’t let my ego get in the way of a decision. At the same time if they don’t do what I want them to do then they will leave the club but leave in a professional manner.”

Meanwhile, the club’s visit to Aldershot Town will now be played on Tuesday January 22 at 7.45pm.

The game was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday January 26 but has been moved because of Aldershot’s progress in the FA Cup.
