All Blacks suffer heavy defeats

DAVENTRY All Blacks endured another disappointing weekend as both the first and second teams were on the receiving ends of heavy defeats.

The first string were beaten by Stockwood Park by 46-7 while the second team were also rocked by a 28-6 loss against Oadby Wigstonians Seconds.

In the second team game, Daventry travelled to Leicester on Saturday for their re-arranged friendly.

Playing once again with a much-changed team, Daventry made all the early running in heavy conditions that made open rugby very difficult.

Daventry forwards enjoyed a stable scrummage and excellent line-out ball.

Towards the interval it was the home side that started to take control and the Daventry back row of skipper Jason Mills, Dave Marks and Terry Cooper performed well in defence.

Oadby backs made the best of the conditions

handling and

supporting well.

At the break, honours were even at 6-6 with two well-taken penalties from fly-half Nick Smith, levelled out by similar replies from the home side.

Influential substitutions at the interval and the

superior fitness of the Oadby side paid dividends.

In the second-half they started strongly up front and their backs, with more time on the ball, created breaks and overlaps that Daventry could not deal with.

Although sticking to their task well, Daventry could not prevent three second-half tries which gave Oadby a comfortable deserved win despite a determined and spirited performance from the visitors.

Next Daventry All Blacks Seconds are at home against Towcester Thirds as they return to East Mids League action.
