Warwickshire Division Two
Barby 129 (two points)
Rugby 130-four (20 points)
Rugby ran out comfortable winners against Barby in the derby encounter last weekend.
Steve Hurt crucially won the toss and inserted the visitors on a damp wicket. Alan Milsom and Matt Ewer then took over.
By the time drinks were taken in the 25th over Milsom and Ewer had removed the top five Barby batsmen with the score at a meagre
34.
Milsom finished with figures of four-22 from 15 overs while Ewer went for 17 from 15 taking one wicket.
With the wicket drying out Barby's only notable contributions with the bat came from youngsters Jack Bennett 33 and Will Sinclair who finished on 44 not out with Barby losing their last few wickets in the chase for quick runs.
The final score of 129 seemed well short.
Lee James and Charlie Robards started sensibly in reply waiting for the bad balls to keep the runs ticking along and when James departed for 11 skipper Steve Hurt came to the crease and he again kept calm to steer the hosts home with 42 not out while Robards made 29 and Matt Ewer 28.
Warwickshire Division Two Reserves
Barby Seconds 195-nine
(24 points)
Rugby Seconds 140
(five points)
In the reverse fixture at the BCG, Barby's second string defeated Rugby to remain top of the league. Batting first Barby's innings was underpinned by 64 from Jack Seager while useful contributions were also made by captain Dan Dury 35, Bryce Long 19 and Dickie O'dell 19 and the 195 made by the hosts looked a good score on what started out as a very damp track.
Whitehouse and Milsom both took two wickets for Rugby.
Choham and Rhubans started well in reply and took the score to 80 for the first wicket at which point the visitors looked on top.
This all changed when Bryce Long and Paul Fortnum were introduced into the attack and after Choham went for 31 and Rhubbans for 43 the wickets fell quickly.
Eventually the Rugby batsmen were dismissed for 140 with Long finishing with
five-43 from 13.4 overs and Fortnum five-28 from nine.
Braunston (63 for three) Griff and Coton
(61 all out)
Braunston's Warwickshire League team had a much
easier victory over Griff and Coton from Nuneaton.
Griff were dismissed for just 61 with all of Braunston's seven bowlers looking
impressive. The pick was the youngest as 14-year-old Jack Smith took four for seven off eight overs.
He was closely followed by fellow teenagers Lawrence Denny (two for 13) and Sam Penhall who between them conceded only 20 runs in their 14 overs. Captain Chris Lodge (one for nine), Alan Jellis (two for 12) and Will Jennings (one for six) were among the wicket takers.
Braunston's reply was much more adventurous and the runs were scored at a considerably faster rate.
Lodge and Adam Treen put on 33 before Treen was caught.
Michael Hummell was bowled on the penultimate ball of the day to allow the young wicketkeeper Jordan Shingler the opportunity to score the winning run with a lofted on drive for four.
