S and L lost 3-2 at home to Northern Unibond League giants Ilkeston Town while the Swans were on the receiving end of a 5-0 trouncing at Fleet in Hampshire.
By contrast little Southam United of the Midland Combination earned a midweek replay with
Southern League Atherstone Town who had beaten Woodford United only a week
earlier.
There were mixed
fortunes for the SL Midland Division clubs involved in the FA Cup at the weekend with Bury Town, Aylesbury United and Chesham United the only winners on day when Chasetown and Rothwell drew with
each other.
Bury did well to beat Chelmsford City while Aylesbury and Chesham who share grounds scored four times apiece against Mangotsfield and Weston-super-Mare
respectively.
Romulus, Dunstable Town, Leighton Town and Arlesey all bit the dust but Premier Division outfit Brackley Town earned a replay from a
1-1 draw at Stourbridge.
Rugby Town put a string of poor league performances behind them in beating Long Eaton by 5-1 at
Butlin Road.
Woodford United, Long Buckby and Daventry United had all fallen
earlier at the first hurdle in this season's FA Cup competition while upwardly-mobile Daventry Town will not be eligible to take part
until the 2009-2010
campaign.
