Rugby Tri Club
member and Team Lutterworth Cycle Centre rider Greg Ashley, from Braunston, continues to have a successful
2009 season.
Having spent the first six months concentrating on triathlon, he has gone back to road racing with great success winning two road races in the last
two weeks.

He said: "The first part of the year was spent
concentrating on Triathlon. My early

season aim was the UK 70.3 Ironman event down on Exmoor considered one of the hardest half Ironman events in
the world.

"It consists of a 1900m swim 90km bike and
13-mile run. I raced well and exceeded my
expectations coming in in a time of 5.37 for 20th Vet and 137th overall.
"This was the warm-up for my main event of the year Ironman France in Nice, considered one of the hardest Ironman events due to the tough mountainous cycle route and scorching hot marathon.

"The race consists of a 3.8km sea swim, a 180 km bike race followed by a marathon. It went very well. I achieved a time of 12hours 17 minutes 59 seconds, a personal best by six minutes.

"It was a great event and performance. The scorching heat in the 90s for the run and the very tough and technical bike race made it something to remember.

"Returning home and having a well-earned rest, I decided I would do some road racing – this is where I came from before doing triathlon– to put some speed back in my legs before I return to triathlon to compete in the shorter but quicker events. It went a lot
better than expected.

"I travelled to Milton Keynes to ride the MKCA road races. These are 30 miles long on a very tight technical circuit. I got into an early break in both races and then won the sprint at the end.

"Two wins in as many weeks. They are fast and hard races, great for what I needed! But two
wins was a great
morale booster.
Last weekend Greg competed in the Big Cow Olympic distance triathlon (1500m swim, 40km bike and a 10km run), near Newport Pagnell and knocked six minutes off his personal best time coming in with a time of two hours
17 minutes.

Greg recently
competed in the Southam Sprint Triathlon and had a great result just one week before the Rugby Triathlon Club Sprint Club Championship.
"I came in third overall in a time of one hour five minutes and 34 seconds.

"A time quick enough to be first veteran."
Greg had a good quick swim followed by the third fastest bike ride of the day in 34:55 for the 20km-course around Southam and Princethorpe followed by a quick 20min 55 seconds for the 5km run.
