Hywel has raced around the world, competed in numerous 100-mile time
trials, 13 Ironman races and one double
Ironman race.
Having achieved the UK marathon row title in January, Hywel set about training for his latest achievement.
Hywel con
tinually inspires and motivates members of Rugby Triathlon Club many of whom rose to the challenge and competed in teams to achieve the same 100,000m.
Afterwards Hywel said he had to call on all of his reserves of energy,
motivation, experience and training in order to get through what was the toughest challenge so far.
All of this took place at Harris School Sports
Centre, with members of the Triathlon Club, friends and family around
supporting and cheering on all competitors.
Alongside Hywel were three all-male teams and one all-girls team.
Keith Edwards, Pete Wright and Andy Childs finished the 100,000m distance first in six hours 22 mins 24.1 seconds.
Tony Johnson, Phil Gatley, Martin Sutcliffe and Jamie Sinclair achieved six hours 39 mins 49.4 seconds.
Paul Clarke, Stuart Sykes, Chris Parsons and Gareth Hughes achieved six hours 38 mins 31.3 seconds.
This team also achieved 200K cycling.
In the girls' team – Helen Childs, Alison Postlethwaite, Aileen Johnson and Cath Sykes plus Jules Cox completed 75K.
Sally Baker completed a Treadmill Marathon in three hours 12 minutes, and young Triathlete George Goodwin completed
a 750m row, 20 K bike and 5K run in one hour 16 minutes.
Roscoe Nash also
attempted a new world record in an amazing
challenge completing five hours – one hour on treadmill, one hour shuttle runs, one hour step, one hour weight lifting and one hour on bike – all with 40Kg on his back.
New records and personal best times were achieved throughout the day.
The athletes are also raising money for Myton Hospice and with this
event and previous challenges this year it looks like
more than £3000 will have
been raised.
