A GROUP of young people are now accomplished life-savers thanks to a course at Daventry Leisure Centre.
The group, aged from eight to 16, earned their life support awards after taking part in the rookie lifeguard sessions held at the centre’s pool.
The award includes how to safely deal with someone in difficulty in the water, how to deal with an unconscious casualty and how to help someone who has stopped breathing.
Swimming lesson manager Rosemary Fletcher-Turk said: “People are quick to condemn our youth, but working within the sport of swimming I encounter youngsters who are dedicated, responsible, mature and willing to volunteer and give back to their sport and community.
“The rookie awards go a long way towards displaying this, with young people enjoying the training and having fun.”
