A GROUP of Daventry youngsters have enrolled on a 12-week course in a bid to try and turn their lives around.
The 16 to 25-year-olds are taking part in the Prince’s Trust Team Programme which was launched in the town’s leisure centre last week.
The aim of the course is to give educational underachievers and the long-term unemployed the chance to learn new skills.
During the 12-week programme the 13 youngsters will have to live on their own as well as complete community projects and work experience.
Matt Ottley, who’s running the course in Daventry, said: “All the youngsters want to be here and have turned up every morning off their own back.
“They have all had difficulties in their lives but now they want to change things and make a difference. They have bad reputations in the community but now want to change that and do something positive.
“Just seeing the progress they’ve made from day one is fantastic and now we are looking at possible community projects at schools and community centres.
“The idea is that after the course they look to get a job or sign up to a college course.”
