Volunteer groups facing cuts

SOME of Daventry’s biggest volunteer groups may be forced to cut services and staff when Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) announces its new revenue budget next month.

The Phoenix Centre, Daventry Area Community Transport (DACT), Time2Talk and Home Start Daventry are among the organisations needing to find other forms of income to maintain the service they currently offer.

Advice Daventry, which offers a Citizens Advice Bureau, is also under threat as previously reported in the Daventry Express.

Gary Osbourne, chairman of the management committee at the Phoenix Centre on Ashby Road, told the Gusher that NCC is cutting the centre’s strategic grant of £20,000 for the next financial year, which accounts for around 30 per cent of its total grant income.
