OVER 1,000 shoeboxes containing sweet treats, magazines and woolly socks have made their way to troops serving in Afghanistan from the people of Braunston village.
Villagers Val Worrall and Angela and Wayne Foster from the Braunston convenience store have coordinated the delivery of 1,162 parcels and are including a few festive ingredients on the run up to Christmas.
Mrs Worrall said: “We have been sending mince pies and chocolate logs as a little treat but toiletries are always good things to include as well.
“Our recent recipients are the Royal Dragoon Guards, as of early November, and they have already sent two thank you letters to us which are thrilling to receive.”
Other useful donations include used magazines and dried soups.
Organisers are also happy to post parcels from further afield than Braunston - donations can be dropped at the village store.
Mrs Worrall said: “I am so grateful to all the people who have donated.”
