Local residents interested in having an allotment are being invited to view a new potential plot in Welton.
Cllr Abigail Campbell, Welton Parish Council and local residents have been working with Daventry District Council to find a potential allotment plot and the Crown Estate has recently offered to lease the village an acre of land on the edge of the village.
In addition to allotment plots, the site could accommodate a storage building, a small car-park and a community garden.
A site meeting for anyone interested in finding out more about the opportunity is being held on Saturday, September 14 at 10.30am.
Cllr Campbell said: “This is a fantastic opportunity. The benefits to individuals and communities of shared open spaces like allotments are enormous.
“The only other community growing site in the village was sold for development last year so we’re pleased to have this new offer of land. We just need to make sure enough people come forward now to register their interest in order not to lose it.”
More information about the site meeting is available from the clerk of Welton Parish Council, Samantha Dalziel on samantha.dalziel@out look.com or 01327 876023. Those who can’t attend but would like to register their interest in an allotment should get in touch with the clerk no later than September 22.
