Students from Daventry UTC brought home second and third place trophies after competing in Operation Tempest – a challenge set by Royal Navy.

Year 10 and year 12 students were set a real life scenario, where a hurricane had struck a small island.

A container ship containing medical supplies was caught in the storm and lost its cargo, which the students had to recover by building a remote controlled ship equipped with a crane.

After a day of competing against 20 teams from all around the country, year 10 students were the third-best team in their age category and year 12 students secured a respectable second spot on the podium.

Student Zoe Hancox said: “It was a good day which gave everyone some experience and let us see what ideas other schools had.”
