AN ITV documentary on Thursday evening claimed parking charges in Daventry had been put up by the district council by 100 per cent.
The news surprised many local viewers, who know the council does not charge anything for parking in the town centre, and has no plans to do so in the near future.
The TV programme claimed councils were upping parking charges to help fill their coffers, and named Daventry District Council as one example.
The report appears to have based its claims on last year’s increase in parking charges at Daventry Country Park.
The council increased charges from £1 to £2 per day in April last year, and said money from parking charges at the site is ‘ring-fenced’ meaning it goes directly back into the country park to pay for operational and maintenance costs.
