A MAJOR wood turning show drew in the crowds to Daventry over the weekend.

Wood Works at Daventry was organised by the Daventry-based Tudor Rose Wood Turners and held at the town’s leisure centre over Saturday and Sunday (May 12 and 13).

Geoff Freeman, from the group, said: “It was extremely successful, and really well attended.

“It’s organised entirely by the Daventry group, and it really puts the town on the map.

“There used to be a wood turning event at the Warwickshire exhibition centre a few years ago, but that was stopped.

“As there was no other event in the Midlands, we decided to try and put one on here.

“The first year we just had the Saxon Suite, but that wasn’t enough, so the following year we had the sports hall at the leisure centre, and this year we were back as well. We don’t make lots of money off the event, but it gets people into Daventry.

“Footfall was slightly down on last year, but we had more trade stands, and I think many of them were in profit from the event.”
