Traders asked to join scheme

Tradesmen and women are being urged to apply for a place on a list of trusted contractors for the Care and Repair service.

The service, run in partnership by Daventry District Council and South Northamptonshire Council, offers practical advice and guidance to people who need repairs or adaptations so they can carry on living in comfort and security in their own homes.

It maintains a list of preferred contractors it uses when organising work for people, to ensure that work is completed to a high standard. The list is also used by the Care and Repair team when people contact them to find recommended contractors.

The list opens for applications from new contractors on July 7. The service is looking for all specialist trades, but especially window suppliers and installers, roofers, construction design and management co-ordinators and project managers.

Cllr Richard Atterbury, Daventry District Council’s housing and health portfolio holder, said: “It is vital when organising building work such as home adaptations to have contractors you can trust. By using traders on the preferred contractors list people can enjoy peace of mind that the adaptation work will be carried out in the correct manner and to a high standard.”
