Thanks for supporting DACT campaign

FOLLOWING the hugely successful DACT Petition, spearheaded by the Daventry Express from September to December last year, DACT are delighted to be able to report that the votes of you, the local people, did count and Northamptonshire County Council have agreed not to cut the grant to DACT for 2012/13.

A total of 11,102 people (approximately 18.5 per cent of the adult population of Daventry and district) lent their voices to express loca-lism in its truest sense, and we are convinced this helped in our appeal to safeguard DACT’s future delivery of services.

What does this mean for DACT?

The threatened 20 per cent cuts to staff hours which would have also meant a 20 per cent reduction in services/minibuses will not now have to take place.

With the NCC grant of £31,980 now confirmed for one more year, and with the fundraising donations sent in by many individuals and community groups, DACT will be able to continue its volunteer car service, community minibus service, dial-a-ride service and shopmobility service to its many thousands of passengers.

DACT are hoping to have talks with NCC shortly to plan and prepare for 2013/14 and beyond in an effort to avoid the huge uncertainties which surrounded this year’s grant funding.

I’d like to express my grateful thanks for the attitude of all the staff team at DACT, the many letters, telephone calls and donations from thousands of supporters, and the Daventry Express together with county councillor Chris Long for having the courage to stand up for one of its local outstanding charities.

Once again, a massive thank you to you all.
