THE longest serving teacher at a town secondary school has retired after 36 years.

Andrew Hopkins, 58, has worked at Danetre School since 1976 and has been the head of design technology and engineering for the past 12-years.

His last day at the school was on Friday, July 20.

Mr Hopkins said: ““I reckon that during my time as a teacher I have probably taught around 7,500 children.

“I will miss it at Danetre, but I’m looking forward to doing other things. I’ve been in education one way or another since I was five-years-old so it will be good to have a break.”

For the full interview with Mr Hopkins, plus comments from his son Phillip who also teaches at Danetre, see the Daventry Express on Thursday.
