A CHEF and a wine maker have won prestigious county-wide awards.

Lee Gaskins, who works at The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House in Creaton was judged to be the best chef in the county at the Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards. He was not the only winner in the Daventry area as Fleur Fields, run by husband and wife Bill and Flora Hulme in Brixworth, won the best local drink for Fleur Fields Rose.

Mr Gaskins said: “I initially put myself forward just to see how I compare to the other chefs in the local area, so to win is fantastic.”

Mr Hulme said: “It was nice to win because there is a lot of quality in Northamptonshire. Any form of recognition for our products has to be welcomed.”

There were runner-up awards for the Medium Apple Juice made by The Village Orchard in Flore which finished behind Fleur Fields for the best local drink.

Also receiving recognition is The Saracen’s Head in Little Brington which was runner-up in the best pub/bar restaurant of the year while the pork pie with chicken made by Saul’s of Spratton was runner-up in the best local product.

The winners were announced at a special dinner at Holdenby House on Thursday last week.
