Old fashioned community spirit was in abundance on a Daventry street.

Residents of Kitchener Close, on the Timken estate, marked the 10th anniversary of their street with a special party on Saturday July 14.

Organiser Chris Newman said: “It was probably one of the best events we’ve held in the close.

“We are so lucky to have a proper community here.

“We’ve had a number of get-togethers in recent times and this one was wonderful.

“There are only 12 houses but it was fantastic.

“People’s close family came along too and we must have had around 75 to 80 people in total.

“We had barbecues and lots of games for the kids including a treasure hunt. We also laid on some games for adults such as musical chairs.

“It’s great to see community spirit and we’ve had lots of comments from people saying they wish they lived in a street like ours.

“We all look out for each other. If my neighbour needs their kids looking after at short notice then I’ll do it and we walk each other’s dogs when people are on holiday.”
