THE collection of stray dogs across the Daventry district has changed.
Starting from Monday, August 1, Daventry District Council will no longer collect stray dogs out of office hours, for example evenings, weekends or bank holidays.
The council says anyone who captures a stray will have to either wait until the next working day to have it picked up, or take it to kennels themselves.
The council takes around 20 stray dogs a year to the kennels outside of office hours with each costing on average £300.
Cllr Daniel Cribbin said: “When duties to collect stray dogs were transferred to the council we anticipated a much higher demand for out-of-hours collections, but this has not materialised over the past three years.”
