MORE than a mile of coppers have been collected by fundraisers in Yelvertoft for Cancer Research UK.
Villagers Liz Lowther and Jane Walker asked villagers to donate their spare pennies and now have enough to create a mile-long line.
The mile was assembled at Yelvertoft Village Hall by volunteers last weekend.
The pair had been overwhelmed by the villagers’ generosity after the local school, church and other organisations chipped in.
Mrs Lowther said: “We are very grateful to everyone who’s donated or helped out in any way.
“The support from local organisations has been overwhelming. We’re still collecting funds but so far have managed to raise well over £1,000.”
The pair will be running the Great South Run in Portsmouth next month to further boost the charity coffers.
