THE current Olympic mascot and a former Team GB
athlete visited Welton Primary School to mark the achievements of its athletics team.

Wenlock, one of the mascots for the Games in
London, visited on Friday alongside triathlete Hollie Avil who represented Team GB at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

The pair presented the school’s athletics team with a trophy and medals marking them as the overall winners at a county athletics event held at Moulton College on Thursday last week.

Headteacher Yvonne Watts said: “It was really good to get this award.

“We are very proud of all of our athletics team members who worked so hard. We are absolutely delighted. It is an even greater achievement considering that we are quite a small school and we competed against others who are two or three times bigger.

“A huge thanks go to Kirsten Avery, Annette Russell and Natalie Blacken who have coached our team and all of the parents who have supported out team.”
