SHOPPERS in Daventry are being warned to keep their wits about them during the New Year sales.
Northamptonshire Police issued the message as officers aim to cut down on shoplifting and theft over the busy retail period.
Police are advising people who come into the town to make sure they never leave purses and wallets unattended, not to carry too much cash and never leave their valuables on show in vehicles.
Sergeant Matt Phillips said: “The aim is to drive down retail crime and make sure that offenders are not welcome.
“Our town centres should be safe places for workers, shoppers and visitors alike.
“With a high police presence and support from our partners and the CCTV network we will have known shoplifters and prolific offenders covered. There is no hiding place.”
