YOUNGSTERS at Welton Primary School have helped to send a child in Africa to school for a year.

Pupils across the school have been buying bags of 1kg rice from a company called Just Trading Scotland which helps farmers in Malawi.

Around 90 children bought in £3 to purchase a bag of rice, the proceeds from which pay for a farmer to send a child to further education.

The school’s bursar Helen Thompson said: “You have to pay for further education in Malawi. I think it has made our pupils realise how lucky they are and that they can help send a child to school.”
