Welton CE Academy celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and on Monday the entire school took part in a ‘1915 school day’.

Children dressed up in period costume and head teacher Corinne Biddell took pupils who live in the neighbouring village of Ashby St Ledgers (pictured) across the fields to the school in a trailer pulled by a tractor.

Pupils had lessons in arithmetic, dictation, scripture and handwriting during the day and throughout the week each class has studied a select period of history to prepare for an exhibition of their work together with photos, mementos and other memorabilia loaned from local residents and ex pupils.
