ANCIENT artefacts from around the Daventry District were handed to the county’s finds liaison officer this week.
Every two months Northamptonshire County Council (NCC) holds surgeries in Daventry where people can bring along ancient objects they have discovered in the area.
Among those handed in on Monday were a 13th century seal matrix, a William III sixpence and a 17th century salt spoon.
Julie Cassidy, finds liaison officer at NCC, said: “By studying artefacts and discovering their location we can find out a lot about the history of Daventry and the county.
“We’ve found over 10,000 artefacts in 10 years in Northamptonshire and in the Daventry area in particular there is a lot of Roman history.”
The surgeries are held at the Daventry District Council offices on Lodge Road. The next one will be on April 4 from 2.30pm until 4pm. For information call 01604 237249.
