Racing for village funds

A PARISH council chairman is getting ready to tackle a half-marathon to raise funds for a village hall.

Gary Brown, 45, will compete in the Milton Keynes race this Sunday (March 4).

He is chairman of Wolfhampcote Parish Council, which covers the village of Flecknoe.

And all the cash raised will go towards refurbishment work at Flecknoe Village Hall.

Mr Brown said: “We’ve had some major work done at the hall including an extension, so I’m trying to raise some extra funds to help with the decorating.

“We are probably around £5,000 short at the moment so this is one thing I can do to help.

“Even if I raise £100 then it will be a step in the right direction.

“I do a lot of walking and hiking and have done fundraising events before.

“But I’ve never done a half-marathon so I’m feeling a bit nervous and apprehensive.

“I’m confident I can finish it though and I’m looking forward to it.”
