POLICE will increase speed checks in a village after it was found that a quarter of drivers were exceeding the limit.
Checks were carried out in East Street and Station Road in Long Buckby back in January and the results were presented at a parish council meeting on Monday, February 14. The findings showed that one in six vehicles in Station Road were found to be speeding.
The police have now revealed that they will be carrying out additional checks over the next few weeks.
Chairman of the parish council, Steve Osborne, said: “One of the worst offenders was a driver who was doing 60mph in a 30mph zone.
“People have to remember that sometimes you do get caught out. However the fact that police are doing checks in the village should encourage them to slow down and make it safer.”
