PUPILS from the Danetre and Soutbrook Learning Village won seven trophies this year as part of the waterfowl club.

Club member Matthew Coleman, 13, won the prestigious awards of Best Junior Exhibitor and Champion Junior Exhibitor from the British Waterfowl Association in October with his white call duck.

Expressive arts technician at the DSLV and leader of the waterfowl club June Wilson said: “That trophy has eluded us for some time and it is actually the best we have ever done - it’s outstanding and I’m really proud of the students.”

The club has been running for 16 years at the school, showing ducks in national competition for the past six years.

Mrs Wilson said: “The club is quite popular, we have a list of people waiting to join.”

Pupils can learn the basics of waterfowl care, take an AQA course and even adopt a duck to show in competitions.

Other club trophies include Best Junior Handler won by Bradley Turnland and four won by the school in breed classes.
