A FUNDRAISER has said cheers to customers at several Daventry district pubs for donating thousands of pounds.

John Birch, a volunteer for Macmillan Cancer Support in Daventry, organised events held at Easter to raise money for the charity with buckets put out in the bar

A total of £3,656.28 was raised by among others The Plume of Feathers, Casey’s Club and The Dun Cow all in Daventry and The Old Plough at Braunston and the Red Lion at Crick.

The events, now in their 18th year, have had a huge impact.

Mr Birch, said: “Between 1996 and 2010 Daventry fundraising was £403,000 which is an astonishing total. My thanks to everyone involved.”

The money will go to Macmillan’s campaign to provide a new haematology suite at Northampton General Hospital. Some £1.5 million is needed to build the unit and the appeal has raised more than £600,000.
