A VILLAGE hotel and pub has earned itself a place a prestigious restaurant guide.
The Red Lion at East Haddon will be featured in the Good Food Guide 2012 for the first time following anonymous nominations from customers.
The book is the UK’s top-selling review guide for restaurants, pubs and cafes.
Nick Bonner, co-owner of the pub, said: “I’ve been on holiday and I first found out about this on Tuesday morning. We’re absolutely overjoyed.
“We took on Adam Gray about a year ago, who has been Garry Rhodes’ executive chef and has held a Micheline star.
“We want to offer the best quality food and experience we can.
“Getting into the Good Food Guide has been a personal goal for me since I opened a restaurant. The thing with the guide is that it comes from customer responses and reviews.
“With some other guides it comes down to how much money you spend with them on advertising.
“It’s very democratic. And they send out mystery diners as well just to make sure we’re up to standard.
“Some restaurants get hung up on getting a Michelin star, and you can spend a lot of money to get there. But this is all about the customers.
“We here are all about the best quality, wholesome pub food we can produce.”
The new guide is published at the end of August.
