A public meeting is set to be held to discuss a planning application for 47 new homes in Staverton.

Staverton Parish Council is holding the event to help it formulate its official response to the application.

The council has also denied claims by the developer behind the scheme of a ‘close working relationship’.

A spokesman for the parish council said: “Staverton Parish Council first became aware of a planning application to build 47 homes, on land lying between the village’s primary school and the edge of Staverton Park Golf Course, which had been submitted to Daventry District Council by way of the media.

“In the article, the agents for the proposal advised “it has worked closely with Staverton Parish Council and the local primary school before submitting the application, which includes allocating land to facilitate the school expansion”.

“There have in fact been two Open Meetings for the general public to discuss outline proposals, one facilitated by the parish council and one by the agents which villagers have attended.

“To-date, an opinion has yet to be formed by the parish council as to whether to support or object to the application as they have only recently seen the final submission.

“The intention is to hold an open parish meeting for all the villagers to attend on Thursday August 13 at 7.30pm in the village hall, so that the opinion of the parishioners of Staverton can be sought.

“Until that time, Staverton Parish Council will remain impartial and deny that any “close working relationship” has come about with the developer.

“Should any parishioners not be able to attend the meeting, comments are welcome to the clerk, Sue Porter, via email on stavertonclerk@btinternet.com or if preferred, in writing to the Vice Chairman of Staverton Parish Council John Golding of Green Farm House, Glebe lane, NN11 6JF.

“Should anybody wish to see a full set of plans then these are available for inspection on Daventry District Council’s web site. In addition a hard copy is available to view by appointment at the chairman’s House Jo Gilford, 16 Home Close, Staverton by calling 01327 872156.”
