Power to the townspeople

ON FRIDAY a motion was passed at a public meeting to have a referendum on the WaterSpace project.

If there is one it could set a dangerous precedence, with people in the future expecting one on things like swimming pools, transport systems and any other major project.

It is much safer to have consultations, which nobody is obliged to implement and never seem to answer the basic question - do we want it or don't we?

However in this particular case, whatever the outcome, it is apparently not binding on Daventry District Council.

What it will settle, once and for all, is what the people of Daventry think about it.
