A cricketer for Essex and England has been memorialised in a plaque at Chipping Warden where he died during the war.

Kenneth Farnes had volunteered as a night-time pilot, but on October 20, 1941, on his first unsupervised night flight out of Chipping Warden airfield, he crashed at Hogg End in the village and was killed.
